*Do any necessary painting and wall cleaning
*Clean basement-wipe off furnace, ducts, hot water tank, washer/dryer, circuit box
*Clean and organize garage
*Take castaways to your favorite charity
*Take excess keepsakes to storage
*Call in repairman for necessary mechanical repairs
2 WEEKS PRIOR
*Clean flower beds, plant flowers (in pots if cold weather)
*Mulch all shrubs and flower beds
*Manicure lawn (don't save save for last minute in case of bad weather)
*Polish and clean: storm doors, garage doors, windows, front door, porch rails, lights, mailbox, door handles, doorbell button( make it sparkle)
*Locate door and floor mats in case of bad weather
*Line up extra lamps if existing lighting is inadequate
*Regrout shower and tub areas
*Schedule carpet cleaners for 3-4 days prior to first showings
*Clean gutters in the event of rain
*Polish furniture, woodwork, cabinets
WEEK OF FIRST SHOWING
*Replace burned-out light bulbs
*Clean all light fixtures
*Super clean and polish kitchen and bath fixtures
*Rid kitchen counters of just about everything, and put a fresh plant or other decorative item
*Super clean whole house
*Order fresh flowers for table(s) and maybe a flower pot for the front porch
DAY OF A SHOWING
*Put all breakables, collectibles and jewelry in a safe place
*Shine plumbing fixtures
*Tuck drain boards, sponges, detergents under sink
*Put out fresh towels in bathroom
*Put clean door and porch mats out
*Air out house
*Cook light scent potpourri or use plug-ins
*Run vacuum sweeper
*Remove all evidence of pets-dishes, food, litter pans etc.
*Empty waste baskets
*Situate or remove furniture to create open walking areas for visitors
